Many people today are looking for products that contain no wheat. If you
fall under the category of being wheat intolerant then you should know
that all of our baked goods are wheat-flour free. Everything is
high in dietary fiber because we use rolled oats and grind them into flour.

No, we are not Gluten-Free. We grind the finest rolled oats into flour
to make our products wheat free and higher in dietary fiber. However, we
are baked in a facility that uses gluten in other products, so we are
NOT certified gluten free.

Fat-free products usually taste like the box they come in. In addition
to adding balance to our cookies and brownies, taste has always been a
top priority. We have found that when something is fat-free, people eat
double the amount. The added whey protein helps fill you up, so you
don’t feel like eating more and more. Remember, balance is the key.

Our products have no preservatives. Our delicious protein-packed

Yes. We suggest in addition to keeping them in their packaging, placing
them in zip-lock bag when freezing. When frozen, they can last up to 3
months and they taste amazing right out of the freezer. They taste like a
frozen ice cream cake. Yum!

Throughout the years, we have donated cookies and brownies to the City
Harvest program in New York City. We have done this since our first
month in business in 1999. The only exception to this was after
September
11th. The founder of The Protein Bakery ran the hot food service on
Monday's in St. Paul's Chapel at Ground Zero. Aside from overseeing the
hot food served, he brought down hundreds of cookies and brownies for
the people performing the search and rescue effort. The Protein Bakery
has also donated product to fund-raisers for breast cancer, HIV, local
children's schools and battered women shelters.

What is protein? Protein is a major component of
enzymes, hormones, body tissues, the immune system, and virtually every
cell and fluid in the body. Protein is made up of building blocks called
amino acids. Amino acids can be synthesized in the body, but nine of
them, called essential amino acids, must be ingested from food.

Whey protein is
the name for a collection of globular proteins that can be isolated
from whey, a by-product of cheese manufactured from cow's milk.

What should someone’s daily intake of protein be?

The
recommended daily allowance (RDA) of protein is 0.8 grams per a
kilogram of body weight. For example, a 130 pound sedentary adult needs
47 grams of protein per a day. This requirement increases with activity,
and an adult who exercises regularly needs about 70 grams of protein
per day.
Athletes need more protein in their diet, often as much as twice the recommended daily allowance.

Athletes use protein to help repair muscle tissue after a hard work-out.

Expected mother’s protein needs increase up to 33% during pregnancy.

Aging
adults combine good nutrition with adequate amounts of high quality
whey protein to help limit muscle and bone loss over time during aging.

Healing
wounds and surgical incisions require increased amounts of protein and
amino acids to initiate the growth of new skin cells during the healing
process.

Hypertensive individuals use whey protein to help reduce
their high levels of blood pressure which is the leading cause of heart
disease and stroke.

People with high cholesterol turn to whey protein to help reduce their cholesterol levels.

Safe for children because it will not spike their blood sugar levels.

Diabetics
who need to carefully manage food intake use whey protein because it
helps control blood glucose levels in their body and for weight
management.

Weight management is promoted by whey protein because
it helps stabilize blood glucose levels by slowing the absorption of
glucose into the bloodstream. This in turn reduces hunger by lowering
insulin levels and making it easier for the body to burn fat. Whey
protein also contains bio active components that help stimulate the
release of two appetite-suppressing hormones. Adding whey protein to a
mid-day snack or beverage provides healthy energy and may help control
food intake at the next meal.

Glutathione is found in whey protein and acts as an antioxidant required for a healthy immune system.

Instead of using White Flour, we grind up rolled oats into powder.
Cooking with oat powder lowers the carbohydrates and increases your
dietary fiber intake.

So many Protein Bakery eaters are vegetarians. Finding a protein
source that is also a delicious sweet treat is not easy, and our
vegetarian customer base is very complimentary and very vocal.

First,
you should know that Whey Protein is a dairy protein and comes from
cow's milk. It does NOT come from animal flesh. We are a great
product
for vegetarians, not for vegans. Secondly, Whey Protein contains
sufficient levels of all essential amino acids. Did you know that plant
proteins tend to be limited in one or more essential amino acids? In
fact, whey protein isolate has approximately 50% more leucine (an amino
acid that plays a key role in promoting muscle protein synthesis and
muscle growth) than soy protein.

Please remember we are bakers, not doctors. However, many diabetics love
The Protein Bakery. The added protein helps to prevent a spike a blood
sugar. We are so lucky to hear fabulous feedback from people that really
enjoy our product and are diabetic. We suggest the cookies over
the brownies as they have a lower sugar content. As with anything, check with your doctor first if concerned.
